New Hampshire is a great place to visit all year round. There is always something to do. So just to give you an idea:
- summer: great landscapes, smooth roads – at least the main ones, Lots of tourist oriented attractions and all of that at reasonable prices – New Hampshire is one of the few states that does not have state tax. That translates to lower prices of the goods and services compared to other states
- winter: same great landscapes, but this time covered in snow 🙂 great winter sports opportunities
- seasons in between summer and winter: people flock to the state for the above mentioned shopping and to see the magic colours of the forest covered mountains, especially the foliage during autumn (aka the fall)
But north eastern USA is not only New Hampshire – all the states have something unique to offer:
- There’s Maine with beautiful coastal towns. Its official nickname is Vacationland for a reason. Abundance of historic sites, parks, wildlife areas and great coastal scenery make this state a great choice to spend the holiday.
- On the west side of New Hampshire you have Vermont – the Green Mountain State. Remember White Mountains of New Hampshire? Well, Vermont’s mountains are green…
- There’s Massachusetts (the Bay State) with the city of Boston, which is a destination on its own. The state also offers plenty of recreation sites and has rich history. It even played an important role in the seventeenth century witch hunts. Today, 300 years after the events known as the Salem Witch trials you can still visit the building known as the Witch House.
- Then there’s the tiny state of Rhode Island (the Ocean State) – the first colony to break allegiance with the British Crown. You have everything in one place here: history, arts, culture, sports and entertainment. The state’s size makes it super easy to travel around.
- And last but not least is Connecticut – the Constitution State. As the rest of the New England’s states it too has multiple historic sites and great spots for outdoors activities
Having so much interesting things to do and see in the vicinity of New Hampshire you may wonder why I decided to travel to New York – the state – and see the famous Niagara Falls. Unfortunately only from the American side, but still it’s worth a visit. If you do get a chance to go on the Canadian side – do so. Next time I’m there I will and surely I will update the info on this site.
The way to the falls is interesting too:
Surely you have noticed the colourful leaves on the photos above. That exactly is the fall (or The Fall if you prefer) mentioned at the beginning of this post.
Sometimes the road is really straight:
But that is nothing compared to what you will see when moving westwards. There the straight stretches of the road go for miles and miles. I will get back to that in some other post. Here in the north east you will also see this:
And after some time you will eventually reach Niagara Falls:
Enjoy the swim!!!
