These are just screen captures from action cams.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to take any underwater photos. Neither my digital camera nor my phone are big fans of close encounters with water. Even less if it’s salt water.
So for the videos I have used two action cameras. Now I can compare the results.
The video below was taken with a device manufactured by a Hong Kong- based company named Red Leaf. While their main focus is on other equipment they also do have a few action cameras in their offer. The model used here is not new: RD32 II was launched around 2012. Due to the file size I had to upload it to Youtube.
The videos that you have seen in the previous post have been taken with a GoPro Hero 4.
Of course, the market leader – the GoPro – is at this position for a reason. Ease of use, versatility, multitude of functions, LCD display and more make this camera a very useful device. The quality must have its price obviously.
The Red Leaf product is for the budget-concious adventurers (or film makers). The user settings are virtually non-existent. But it’s inexpensive, the video quality (underwater) you can see above, it’s has a 5MP camera and a few other useful options. More on that in some other post.
